I have recessed lighting in my living room & kitchen, and have recently noticed that the outter rings (baffles) on these lights are now yellowish in color, they employed to be white. Is this just age?
I purchased my house new, in 1992. My sister has the identical problem with her recessed lighting.
No one particular in the residence has ever smoked, and there is no grease or dust on them.

I do not know…I didn’t consider that they would discolor. Great, I just had my kitchen redone and I have about 9 lights like that! At least I have a couple of excellent years left till they get yucky.

sounds like this could be just from points in the air more than time.
possibly it could be from the heat.

The rings are removable and can be washed with mild soap and water. Some have springs that hold the rings up, and some have spring clips. Just pull the rings down and squeeze the spring clips with each other. The paint on them is high heat. They turn yellowish from the normal air contamination in kitchens and other areas open to the kitchen because the heat from them causes air circulation about them, drawing the dirt to them.
Just clean them when you do your normal spring cleaning chores.
