At the end of this video are links to even more in depth chroma key tutorials that you may consult for additional details. Some of you were curious about lighting. There are many articles on this subject, but the best advice we can give is to buy a couple of cheap halogen work lamps that go for between -15. You can bounce the light off a white surface aimed at your subject so the lighting isn’t as harsh on your subject. For this video we only used one halogen work lamp, but it worked well enough for our purposes. ENG = Electronic News Gathering. But why quibble?

Have you ever heard of a thing called color gel and changing the color temp on the DSLR? You need to read the instruction manual if you don’t know how to change. That way you get consistent color white balance… You need to learn your equipment before you talk about this subject matter. You can use any LED flash light and get the same result. It is all about the camera setting and with color gel on the it.

@mcheng102 Lights are most certainly not just lights. With LEDs you really do get what you pay for. Buy a cheap product if you prefer but within months you’ll probably end up with a useless fixture that emits green light because the LEDs have been overdriven to make them look brighter. Litepanels may not be cheap but at least you get a consistent color temperature over the life of the product – pretty important if you are a professional videographer!

@ZagatoZee Calibration is done on the camera if you know how to use manual mode on the SLR and not on the litepanel. Beside, adding a gel adds the color to the tone or you can change your own tone on the camera setting> WB Shift/BKT and not the LED panel.. I think you should read the instruction manual on your DSLR. Lights are just lights..

  5. ZagatoZee says:

@mcheng102 Difference being that litepanels use a particular kind of LED that is calibrated for a specific color tone.
The $125 ones from ebay/amazon, do not.
Having said that – I agree that they are over priced, but saying that the $125 copy’s do the exact same thing is not quite accurate.

The only different it come with gels which you can get them at any art supplies store for 75 cents a sheet. Even though you get this lite panel. it would add more weights to the DSLR. I own a 7D with few L lenses with a battery grip. It add up to 9 pounds. Can you imagine hold that on hand held? I think is easier and cost effective to get a flash like and tape it on your DSLR. If if you want to change the gel, just add the gel on the flash light.

They serious over price these lite panel. I saw some on ebay that cost $125 that does same exact thing. @rokinrussian Unfortunately, Wax does not open video files other than .AVI or at least it only does in my case. I tried changing preferences and video files from .wmv and .mp4 etc. but it still does not work. In other words it won’t work with other video files besides .AVI I recommend using Aobe Premier Pro CS5.5, You can get a free trail of it on Adobe.com and it works great Hope this helps! :)
