Fabulous but why so pricey? And batteries cost!,
No stiticher–repeat, NO–stitcher should be without this incredibly practical and useful item. It washes clear, bright light over the stitching in progress, clipping onto the frame easily. You can be in a totally dark room, watching a movie or in bed, and you won’t need any more light to stitch. The magnifier, however, isn’t big enough for constant use. Count on it for no more than checking those little areas you want to take a good look at.
But why so pricey? With shipping, this little light can edge up close to $30. LEDs aren’t exactly new technology, and book lights of this type have been around a long time, usually at a practical price like $9.99. Given the tiny, marginally-useful magnifier that comes with the light, that doesn’t seem like enough to send this product tripling in price. I’m just amazed not to see a fair, realistic price on this one, maybe more like $14.95, rather than $24 or even $34 in some catalogues! And make no mistake–the brightness of the light is dependent upon the newness of the three Triple-A batteries you have to keep adding (you can get an adapter but what stitcher wants a cord trailing from her needlework frame?). And the cost of the batteries has to be figured into the practicality of this light.
If you can afford it, this item is a glorified book light that you’ll use all the time. If you can’t, try to find one used or….
BEST ADVICE: Get the straight booklight version (the non-”Vusion”) and clip on your magnifier seperately!

|Great design…very useful…clear magnification,
I purchased this in teal. It comes with 3 AAA batteries. The 2 LED lights are bright; you have the option of using both lights at the same time or one at a time. The adjustable magnifier, made of plastic, is very clear. (By adjustable, I mean that it can be positioned using the flexible wire it’s attached to. The strength of the magnification can’t be changed). I cover the magnifier with a plastic bag when I’m not using it to prevent scratching it. The base has a strong magnet in it, is heavy, and can be removed if you want to take advantage of the clip. The magnetic base will work with the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Craft Light – Green (this is one of the colors it comes in), too. The light will also stand w/o the base. It seems too heavy to clip onto a paperback book, but could clipped onto a coat, a sheet (if you’re reading in bed), a headboard, a purse…well, you get the idea. An adapter can be purchased if you don’t want to use batteries Mighty Bright AC/DC Adapter 110V & 120V. This is a nifty light.
