a bare hand have lotion or oil or sweat,,,
that cause a lamp burn out and short time
this is a really interesting experiment. I have two suggestions.
1) One theory is that the oil needs to be on a spot to cause heating in one small area to break the glass (similar to what a greasy finger print would do).
2) It’s possible that you need salt as well as oil. i.e. the sodium or chlorine reacts with the quartz to cause failure (similar to a sweaty finger print).. try those out?? I think it’d be really useful ’cause there is no proof on the net for this
You’re an idiot. I work with theatrical lights and we use halogen lamps. You can’t touch them because they DO blow out where you touch them. The oil on your skin that you leave when you touch it literally boils, causing the lamp to warp and blow. I’ve seen it happen enough times to know it’s not a myth. Sometimes you can even see the fingerprint burned into the glass of the lamp. You just didn’t do the experiment right.
I tried something like this on some tubular 300 watt lamps I had around my apartments. The one I touched (I marked on the housing where I did) burned out exactly where I left my finger prints..every time and at about 10% the life of the other lamps.
